Removable Gooseneck
RGN loads
A removable gooseneck detaches at the front so the deck lowers to the ground and becomes its own ramp. Built for equipment that drives on rather than being lifted on.
What rides on a removable gooseneck
- Excavators, dozers, and loaders
- Cranes and lift equipment
- Large agricultural equipment
- Anything tracked or wheeled that drives itself on
The gooseneck on an RGN detaches and the front of the trailer sits down on the ground, turning the deck into a ramp. Equipment drives on from the front, the neck goes back on, and the load rides in a well that sits about a foot and a half off the pavement.
That low well is what makes an RGN the standard for heavy equipment. Freight can stand close to eleven feet six and still be legal, and the drive-on loading means no crane is needed at either end.
RGNs run three or more axles, and additional axles can be added for heavier pieces. Spreading weight across more axles is what keeps a heavy piece inside the per-axle limits that bridges and pavement are engineered around.

Common questions
Removable Gooseneck, explained
What does RGN stand for?
RGN stands for removable gooseneck. The gooseneck — the section connecting the trailer to the tractor — detaches so the front of the deck lowers to the ground, letting equipment drive on rather than be lifted on.
When do I need an RGN instead of a step deck?
Use an RGN when the equipment drives on under its own power, is too heavy for a step deck's 48,000 pound capacity, or stands taller than about 10 feet. Excavators, dozers, and cranes are typical RGN freight; a crated machine that gets lifted on will usually ride a step deck instead.
